A tradition unlike any other...THE MASTERS
ON BEHALF OF THE CAPTAINS CLUB (THE ASSEMBLY WHICH IS SYNONYMOUS WITH THE GAME OF GOLF ITSELF) LET ME WELCOME YOU TO THIS YEARS VERSION OF THE MASTERS INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT. MANY LONG HOURS OF WORK WENT INTO PUTTING TOGETHER THIS YEARS EVENT WITH THE HOPES OF RAISING YOUR GOLFING ENJOYMENT TO ITS HIGHEST LEVEL…….IF ONLY WE COULD RAISE OUR GOLF GAME AS WELL.
EVERY YEAR WE RETURN TO THE HALLOWED GROUNDS OF THE APPLE VALLEY GOLF COURSE TO HOLD OUR PRESTIGIOUS TOURNAMENT AND WE MUST ASK THAT YOU FOLLOW THEIR RULES AS WELL AS OUR OWN WHEN PLAYING THIS WONDERFUL LAYOUT. MAINLY WE ASK THAT YOU TREAT THE COURSE, AS WELL AS YOUR PLAYING PARTNERS WITH RESPECT. ALWAYS REPLACE YOUR DIVOTS (NO MATTER HOW MANY OR HOW BIG) AS WELL AS REPAIRING YOUR BALL MARKS ON THE GREENS. RAKE ALL BUNKERS AFTER YOU PLAY FROM THEM AND PLEASE TRY TO KEEP THE PACE OF PLAY AT A REASONABLE TIME……8 HOUR ROUNDS OF GOLF ARE JUST NO FUN.
THE COURSE HAS REQUESTED THAT ALL ALCOHOL THAT IS CONSUMED ON THE COURSE MUST BE PURCHASED IN THE CLUBHOUSE. ALSO, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ ALL OF THE RULES THAT PERTAIN TO THE TOURNAMENT AS SOME “SPECIAL” MASTERS RULES WILL BE IN EFFECT AND SOME OF THEM DIFFER FROM THE USUAL USGA RULES. PLEASE ENJOY THE NUMEROUS TRIVIAL TIDBITS CONTAINED HERE THAT ENCOMPASS EVERY YEAR OF THE MASTERS EXISTENCE. ALSO, IF YOU BECOME AWARE OF ANYTHING THAT YOU FEEL SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS HANDBOOK, PLEASE INFORM JOHN STAMPE OR PIERRE LORDIER SO THAT IT CAN BE INCLUDED NEXT YEAR.

The Masters Official Rules
RULE #1 : The Carpenter Rule : There are NO Gimmies. All putts , regardless of length, are to be holed out. No exceptions. Playing partners should see that this is upheld.
RULE #2 : The Fuller Rule : All Out of Bounds penalties are to be played as a lateral hazard. This means that after a shot has traveled O.B. that the playing partners will agree where the ball went O.B. and from there the player will play his next shot along with a one stroke penalty.
RULE #3 : The Carpenter Rule #2 : No Cheating ! Another member of the foursome will keep your score. Anyone caught cheating will be tossed from this and any other tournament. Ask Carpenter, it cost him 2 Masters titles.
RULE #4 : The Shirk Rule : If there is a disagreement on scoring or rule interpretation, hole out and then bring the question to the attention of the Captains Club who will decide. The decision of the Captains Club is fair, correct, and final. (We are the supreme rulers of the game.) No Dave, Just because you didn't mean to hit it in the woods is not good enough!!
RULE #5 : The Strayer Rule : The USGA 14 club limit is waived. This will aid those of us who cant make up our minds which club to hit, plus those of us with a temper can bring that extra putter. (Just in case one isn’t working and must be dealt with in the harshest of manners.) - J. D. / justifiable destruction
RULE #6 : The Lordier Rule : Winter rules everywhere but the greens. This means you can roll the ball to find a lie (usually not more than a club head or so). Not out of a bunker, but enough to find a good lie. Common sense also applies, if not sure ask your playing partners for a helpful ruling. On fringe, find a good lie, but do not change the putt through fringe.
RULE #7 : The Edwards Rule : The only reason to leave the course during tournament play is for a bona fide medical emergency. Trust me, his was bona fide!
RULE #8 : The Arnholt Rule : Play the Blue tees, except on #5 & #6 play the Blacks.
RULE #9 : The Spradling Rule : Lost balls are played as follows; the group shall decide where the shot approximately ended up, the player will hit his next shot from there adding 1 penalty stroke.
RULE #10 : The Gehle/Mahoney Rule : All flights are constructed as fairly as possible. Sometimes this is not possible. If it comes to pass that a competitor, in his first year of tournaments, wins a flight by 3 or more strokes then he is moved up to the flight in which he does not win by this margin. Example : A player wins X-Flight by 12 shots. He is moved to C-Flight where he again wins by 7 shots. He is then moved up again to B-Flight . This rule is for ROOKIES only! This rule will not impact yearly players who happen to get “hot”, just those who because they are unknown were placed in the wrong competitive flight. This should not be much of an issue anymore with the new Stampe Tour Handicapping system.
RULE #11 : The Stampe Rule : All other USGA rules apply, like grounding your club in a hazard (yes a bunker is a hazard!!) and putting a ball that is still moving and teeing off BEHIND the markers, those kind a things.
RULE #12 : The Kinsey Rule : If you’re a stud and shooting even par bores you…play somewhere else!!! We’re just trying to have fun here!!!
RULE #13 : The Andy George Rule : Hey man, HAVE FUN !!
RULE #14 : The Dalrymple Rule : Before you tee off, see Lew "the bag man" Haimerl or you will not be eligible to win anything!!
